Rebuilding a Local Mutual Aid Network in France: How it Truly Works

More than half of French people don't know the first name of the person living on their landing. In large cities like Lyon or Grenoble, this figure is even higher. We live next to each other without really interacting.
And when we need a helping hand, someone to hold keys, receive a package, or walk the dog for a morning, we have no one to ask. Guardiens was born from this observation.
What Guardiens Is Not
Guardiens is not Nextdoor. Not a local social network where people debate street construction or search for a plumber.
What Guardiens Is
A network of local people who truly trust each other, because they've met in person, because their identities are verified, because they have already provided services and received public reviews.
Trust doesn't come from an algorithm. It comes from meeting over coffee before entrusting someone with your keys. It comes from the local person who walked your dog in May and whom you allowed into your home in July.
This is the Guardiens philosophy: start with small services, build trust, and eventually entrust your home for the duration of your vacation.

How it's Built Concretely
Step 1: The First Mission
Someone posts a small mission: watering a vegetable garden, receiving a package, assembling furniture. A local person responds. They meet, they interact. First contact, first review.
Step 2: The Relationship
The mission goes well. They now know each other. This person knows where the spare key is. They have the emergency number.
Step 3: Trust
When vacation arrives, this is the person you call. Not a stranger from a national platform. Someone you've already seen, already evaluated, who knows your home and your pets.
In France: Where it Works
Lyon (Caluire, 6th arrondissement, Croix-Rousse, Villeurbanne), Grenoble (Championnet, Île Verte), Annecy (les Fins, Cran-Gevrier), Chambéry (city center, Cognin).
These local areas combine complementary profiles: retirees with time, students with energy, families with regular needs, active people with varied skills.
It is in this diversity that the local network functions best.
